The yoga & pilates apps making money on TikTok, and the formats behind them

We tracked the accounts actually moving yoga, pilates and stretching apps on TikTok, then measured every live competitor in the App Store. The winning content is not yoga. It is lying down.

The finding

The apps winning this niche are not selling yoga. They are selling a body result you get without getting up, and the app is never on screen.

The short answer

In our data the lying-down 'body-part result grid' wins: six moves on the floor, each labeled with a result like 'slim waist', with the creator holding her phone. The top three posts using it did 111M, 43M and 30M views. The biggest classic yoga flow we found stayed under 2M.

There is no app demo. She lies on the floor scrolling her phone while every move carries a body result. The grid is a cheat sheet people save, and the phone in her hand says the quiet part: you can do this without putting it down. The same template did 111M, 43M and 30M.

Questions, answered

What is the best TikTok format for a yoga app?

In our data the lying-down 'body-part result grid' wins: six moves on the floor, each labeled with a result like 'slim waist', with the creator holding her phone. The top three posts using it did 111M, 43M and 30M views. The biggest classic yoga flow we found stayed under 2M.

Do yoga apps show the app in their TikTok videos?

None of the top posts we measured show the app's interface. The app is named in the bio or the caption, and the video is a free sample of the workout.

How much do yoga and pilates apps make?

Third-party estimates from Sensor Tower put BetterMe around $2M a month on US iOS alone, Bend between $600K and $1.1M, Yoga-Go around $600K and Down Dog around $400K. These are estimates, not audited revenue.

How do big fitness apps get views if their own accounts don't?

Through creators. BetterMe's own TikTok averages about 5K views a post on 749K followers; its reach comes from creators with personal codes (two weeks free). Bend runs 'Bend with…' ambassador accounts with 70% off codes.
